Fortnightly 2 hour Meetings

The Spinnaker club meets on the 2nd, 4th and 5th Tuesday of the month from 7.30 pm-9.30 pm in the Bradey Room, Whitby Shopping Centre, Discovery Drive, Whitby, Porirua City. Membership is open to anyone over the age of 18 years on acceptance of application to join.

View our Meeting Calendar for meeting dates. For driving instructions, check our Location details and map.

At our fortnightly meetings, you'll learn the skills of speaking confidently before an audience. At first, you'll participate in table topics (known as impromptu speaking) where you'll be given a topic to talk about for 2 minutes. Usually you just talk about yourself the first time.

Speeches and Evaluations at every meeting

When you join the club, you'll introduce yourself with a 4-6 minute Icebreaker speech. Then you'll give prepared speeches between 7 and 10 minutes long on topics of your choice, covering a wide range of themes, such as using body language, using your voice, being sincere, persuading, and inspiring your audience.

You'll also learn how to give feedback to other speakers, by evaluating their performance against the speech project criteria in the Toastmasters manual.

View the details of the first speech project by downloading the Icebreaker Speech Project (139KB pdf). You can also read the Breaking the Ice, Getting Started and Table Topics pages on the Toastmasters International website for more information.

Datashow projector and Other Resources available
